Jing Xie
Jing Xie (b. 1993, Based in the UK) is a Chinese artist and practice-based researcher currently pursuing her PhD degree in Theatre and Performance at the University of Bristol. Jing completed her BA in Fine Art at China Academy of Art, and MFA at The Glasgow School of Art (First Class Honours).
Xie’s practice explores topics of violence, invisible violence in the micro-physical sense, feminism, negativity, cruelty and hope, embodiment, performativity, engaging with performance and mixed media. Her works are presented as a combination of discovering micro-narratives in everyday life, daily rituals, personal metaphors, and fables. Her strength lies in using temporary rehearsal and collaboration to construct performative situations, spaces, circulated logical relationship matrices and poetic multi-dynamic schemas. Xie approaches it as a way of becoming a temporary aesthetic strategy against the ubiquitous invisible violence, oppression, and exploitation in contemporary society.
Jing Xie co-founded the artist collective 'Hijack打劫' Programme (2016) with Qiong Zhang.
