Selfie Homework, Performance/ Multi-Channel Video Installation, Wuhan, China, 2020.

I  took videos and pictures of myself mourning in silence for one minute in front of various tourist attractions in Wuhan. The inspiration for this work came from a post I saw on the internet, where a teacher asked students to take a moment of silence for the deceased and take selfies or have their parents taking photos of them doing so on 04 April 2020, the national day of mourning in China. It was assigned as a homework task. It felt ridiculous to me but reminded me of how people travel around the world and post their touristy photos online.
